Accountable Tech

Googling abortion? Your details aren’t as private as you think, The Guardian

After the fall of Roe, Google released a policy update on the retention of location history data, which could potentially be used by prosecutors in states that have criminalized abortion. A few months after Google’s update, our staff members used an Android phone to verify their claims. I found Google still retains location data and search queries for reproductive care facilities, which could be used to prosecute abortion seekers in states with restrictions.

The American Labor Movement’s Next Frontier, Accountable Tech Staff Post

As the umbrella of “tech workers” broadens, so do their concerns, their responsibilities, and even their power. Within the context of tech accountability, this post takes a look at the evolving label of tech workers, how the pandemic is affecting existing workplace organizing, and the current state of the labor movement within the tech industry.

For my first Accountable Tech Staff Post, I spoke to Antonio Aguilera of Coworker.org about how tech workers — from warehouse fulfillment workers to software engineers — are building power to advocate for gender equity, pay transparency, and safe working conditions.

Other work on behalf of Accountable Tech includes managing the Twitter account (which grew by over 115% in my first year!), writing copy for the Instagram account and campaign websites, developing social media strategies and launch plans for tech accountability initiatives, rapid response, media monitoring, representing the organization at conferences, and analyzing social media analytics to drive engagement.
